My favorite modern philosopher Terence McKenna had a fantastic theory about exponential growth called Time Wave Zero. This video dramatically illustrates his comments about the acceleration of technological and intellectual development occurring on the planet, long before the bulk of these statistics reached their thresholds.
Most interesting was McKenna's assertion that something dramatic was going to happen as a result of all of this change. I'm wondering if its going to stimulate a transformation not unlike wiping a hard drive and having a new OS installed. Of course, one must ask, will it be voluntary, or happen without our will, perhaps simply as a result of intense stress? We're all feeling the overload already. Can we really take more? Or will the stress be a bounty that leads to dramatic, sudden (and necessary) reordering of priorities?
