This is one of those books that I've never read but have talked about for years. Just reading the review and the quotes in it was enough to confirm my worst nightmares and deepest truths. Read it if...

  • You always knew there was something very very wrong with the way we were being taught.
  • That all of the rigidity (rows of desks, clocks, schedules) wasn't just random.
  • That it seemed the whole point was to suck out your natural creativity and instincts.
  • That there really IS a "class system" within the class system.
  • That even the way kids rebelled was somehow feeding the system's plans.

m'kay. If you haven't actually done to read the review yet, I'm sure that sounds a bit paranoid. Read it and then tell me there isn't a reason to be paranoid about the Amerikan Edukation Cystem.

Read it and then ponder for a moment about all of the suburban droids who never question authority, throw away 4-7 hours of their day to television and don't know their neighbors. It all started in those little rows...
