Have no idea who produced this, but its worth passing along. I just finished watching an online documentary called Zeitgeist. It was amazing. I have only one major issue with it... in the first third the author makes certain extrapolations about the similarities between Christian legends and other mythologies... indeed those parallels are there and were likely supplanted onto the personage of Jesus by the Roman empire (Council of Nicea in 325), but he goes a little far to suggest that it means that Jesus didn't actually exist. While there is a lot of cultural baggage from the illusions in the Christian mythos, there is also an undeniable causal link between faith and personal transformation -- I'd argue that transformations of that sort couldn't happen out of thin air. In other words, Jesus was real. Turning one's attention and heart over to Him has a real effect on individuals. Effects that would not be possible by praying to a non-existent deity. But that is just one third of the film... it goes much deeper into a lot of other issues. Probably just preaching to the choir, but oh does it sing! |
